Victorian Eyecare Service

Introduction

The Victorian Eyecare Serivce is a social support scheme funded by the Victorian Department of Human Services. The College is responsible for the administration, cost effectiveness and quality of care provided by the Victorian Eyecare Service.

The Victorian Eyecare Services provides optometry care at nominal cost for people who hold a Victorian pensioner concession card or health care card and live in Victoria. The services are available in metropolitan Melbourne and through a network of practices in regional Victoria.

The consultation fee is normally bulk billed and patients make a fixed contribution to the cost of glasses or contact lenses with the balance of the cost subsidised by the Victorian Department of Human Services grant.

In 2004 over 57,000 pairs of visual aids were supplied by the VES.
