Mission Statement
The Broad Mission of the College is the advancement of education and
research in optometry. It achieves this mission through the following
strategies.
- providing a coherent programme of quality professional continuing
education for optometrists
- providing information and advice to optometrists, other professional
groups and the community at large on matters relating
to vision, the preservation of sight and the delivery
of eye care
- providing optometric clinical
services for people of limited means and specialist clinical services
of a kind not generally available in private practice for patients
referred to the College clinic
- providing a clinical environment and facilities for clinical
teaching and research. In particular providing
infrastructure to assist in the teaching of undergraduate
students in the Bachelor of Optometry course of the
University of Melbourne
- conducting research in the fundamental and applied clinical
vision sciences through its research divisions of
the NVRI and CVRA
- to contribute, by clinical innovation, by clinical leadership
and by example, to the development of the skill,
ethical standards and community values of the profession of optometry.
