The Nathan Library
is a specialist collection of books, journals and multimedia
in the fields of optometry, ophthalmology, vision science and
optics.
It holds about 100 journal titles in these fields. Some are
not held in other Victorian libraries, and in some cases are
unique to Australia. The older journals run from about 1960
with some broken holdings to earlier years. Newer journals are
mostly held from volume 1.
The Library has a collection of some 2000 monographs and a
diverse collection of technical reports and miscellaneous material.
The Library holds archival material - documents, books, spectacle
frames and ophthalmic instruments - that record the history
of optometry in its archival collection. The library also has
a large collection of audio-visual material.
Access
The Library is open only to members and staff of the Victorian
College of Optometry and the National Vision Research Institute
and the staff and students of the Department of Optometry and
Vision Sciences. However, material may be obtained by inter-library
loan and researchers in universities and industry may use the
library by arrangement. Contact the library for arrangements
to be a research visitor to the Library.
The Nathan Library is located on the first floor of the
Victorian College of Optometry at the corner of Cardigan
and Keppel Streets Carlton 3053.
