Costs
Consultations provided by optometrists may be covered directly by
Medicare.
However, Medicare benefits are not payable for examinations related
to occupational purposes. These include occupational colour vision
assessments and ocular screenings for employees using laser equipment.
Patients or their employers are therefore charged the full scheduled
fee, payable at the time of the consultation.
Eligibility
Patients may be referred to the Visual Functions Clinics by
staff of the Melbourne Optometry Clinic, private optometric
practitioners, medical practitioners and industry.
