:: Homeless Persons Eyecare Program
The Homeless Persons Eyecare Program was established in 2001 by the Victorian
College of Optometry in conjunction with the Royal District Nursing
Service (RDNS). This service endeavours to assist in meeting
the eyecare needs of the significant number of people in Melbourne who
are homeless and attending support service agencies assisted by the RDNS
Homeless Persons Program.
Outreach services are currently available at Sacred Heart Mission
(St Kilda), Ozanam Community Centre (North Melbourne), Flagstaff
Crisis Accommodation (West Melbourne) and St Mary's House of Welcome
(Fitzroy).
Other visiting services using portable equipment are also available
on request.
Services
The homeless persons eyecare program is designed to provide optometry
services to people who were unable to attend the main or regional clinics
who are attending support agencies assisted by the RDNS. Full eye examinations
are provided and visual aids can be supplied where required.
