The Melbourne Optometry Clinic operates a Children's Clinic which provides
eye and vision care for any child under 18 years of age.
The Children's Clinic also administers vision screening programs
at schools and preschools, research programs and in conjunction
with the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences at the University
of Melbourne provides undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing
professional education.
The Children's Clinic provides primary care optometry services
and specialist services.
- The primary care service is a general
eye and vision check for children without a specific referral.
- Specialist services are provided either after the primary care
service identifies a specific problem, or when a child presents
with a specific referral from a professional who is responsible
for the health or educational needs of that child.
Children can be referred to the Clinic by writing to:
Children's Clinic
Melbourne Optometry Clinic
Corner Cardigan and Keppel Streets

An appointment time will be posted to the child/family.
Services
Specialist services include diagnostic assessment and management
of difficult cases of strabismus, amblyopia and other binocular
vision problems. They also include functional and developmental
assessment and management of children with developmental delays,
learning difficulties or medical conditions.
The emphasis of the specialist services is on a multi-disciplinary
approach to care. Vision problems which are identified will be
treated in consultation with the referring professional and reports
will be contributed to the interdisciplinary management of the
child.
