Services by Eligibility

 ::  Patients with Low Vision

If you have been assessed as having low vision, you are welcome to attend the Low Vision Clinics. These Clinics are run by the Vision Australia Foundation in association with the Victorian College of Optometry and the Melbourne University Department of Ophthalmology.

A referral letter from your ophthalmologist or optometrist is required.

Services

Eye Examinations

The optometrists at the Low Vision Clinics provide a detailed assessment of your various levels of vision and determine the types of low vision aids required for your tasks.

Other staff available at the Clinics include orthoptists, occupational therapists, orientation and mobility instructors and welfare officers who may assist in your daily living activities.

Glasses

A copy of any necessary prescription is available at the end of consultation, or glasses are available from the Clinics.

If glasses are clinically necessary they may be provided at a subsidised rate if you have a Pensioner Concession Card or Health Care Card.

If you do not hold a Pensioner Concession Card or Health Care Card, glasses are available at competitive prices.

Low Vision Aids Magnifiers, telescopes and other low vision aids can be provided at moderate cost, usually after you have had a chance to loan them on a trial basis.
