Services by Eligibility

 ::  Children

All children under the age of 18 residing in Victoria are welcome to attend the Melbourne Optometry Clinic.

A referral or letter of introduction from your eyecare practitioner is required if you are under continuing or current eye care. In addition, all patients who have attended an optometrist in the last 2 years are requested to bring a letter of referral or introduction from that optometrist if appropriate.

Services

Eye Examinations


The Clinic provides primary optometry care through its Children's Clinic which is staffed by optometrists and optometry students under the supervision of registered optometrists. Staff are experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of children's ocular conditions.

All aspects of your visual function are investigated in a comprehensive consultation including binocular vision, eye health and your spectacle prescription.

Glasses

A copy of any necessary prescription is available at the end of consultation, or glasses are available from the Clinic.

If the child is covered by a Pensioner Concession Card or Health Care Card, spectacles may be prescribed at a subsidised rate

Contact Lens Services Contact lenses can be provided at moderate cost for those who need contact lenses to achieve good vision. All types of contact lenses are available from the Clinic.

Paediatric Services Dependent children under the age of 18 listed on your card can be seen in our Children's Clinic. Staff are experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of children's ocular conditions.

Disability Services

Services for people with intellectual, physical, sensory and/or multiple disabilities are available. These services can be provided at the main clinic in Carlton, or an off-site visit can be arranged through the Visiting Disability Service.

Visual Functions Clinic You may be referred into the Visual Functions Clinic by your own eyecare practitioner or as a result of your eye examination in the Clinic. Specialist staff and equipment are used for specific assessment and opinions, such as diagnosis of colour vision deficiencies.

Ocular Disease Services

Several clinics are available to manage the detection and monitoring of ocular diseases:

  • Glaucoma
  • Anterior Eye
  • Retina
  • Cataract
  • Diabetes

You may be referred into this clinic by your own eyecare practitioner or as a result of your eye examination in the Clinic.

Low Vision Clinic Patients who have a loss of vision not correctable by spectacles or contact lenses may be helped at a Low Vision Clinic which can provide assessment and advice, as well as various forms of optical assistance to make the best use of remaining vision.
